Accutane And Hair Loss
Accutane is a drug that is used to treat severe forms of acne. It can also be used to treat some skin cancers but its main objective is to treat severe forms of acne when other methods have failed. Because of the adverse side effects, Accutane is usually not prescribed as a first line of defense, but only after other methods have been exhausted. It should be noted that the side effects of Accutane don’t affect everyone but you should be aware of them in case you do become affected. One of the side effects that needs to be discussed with your dermatologist is the side effect of Accutane and hair loss.
Dermatologist
If you have severe acne and you have tried everything, you need to schedule an appointment with your dermatologist so that you can give Accutane a try. Your dermatologist will determine if you are a good candidate for taking a drug like Accutane and will usually draw up some blood work to help with that assessment. The blood work is used to test for any kidney damage, as Accutane and negatively affect the kidneys. Accutane should never be taken or even handled by pregnant women as it can cause birth deformities. These are a few of the side effects of Accutane but the most devastating, probably because it is one of the more visible ones, is Accutane and hair loss.
Accutane and hair loss needs to be discussed thoroughly with your dermatologist in case you happen to experience this particular type of side effect. You need to be aware of it so that you don’t freak out when your hair gets left in your brush or at the bottom of your tub drain, because hair loss is no laughing matter. Most people cherish the hair on their heads and most don’t want to chance experiencing the side effect of Accutane and hair loss.
However, it all comes down to what you want more, clear skin or a full head of hair. Of course, the two are not mutually exclusive, you can have a full head of hair and great skin, you just have to find a medication or treatment that will allow you to have both. Accutane does work wonders if taken properly and not everyone does experience hair loss when taking the medication. Some people don’t experience any side effects at all. However, you need to be aware of all side effects when taking this medication and that is especially true when it comes to Accutane and hair loss, because you don’t want to be surprised when, or if, anything bad happens.
